Summer Maxwell

Summer Maxwell, M.S. (she/her) is a psychology intern at the University of Akron Counseling & Testing Center, and she is completing her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. She has worked with both children and adults in various settings, including college counseling centers, community centers, and private practice. Summer’s approach to therapy can best be described as integrated, person-centered, and liberation-focused. Although she works from a generalist perspective, Summer’s particular areas of interest include culture and diversity issues, such as race-based stress or trauma, acculturation, and identity development. Her research primarily focuses on understanding barriers to mental health treatment for marginalized populations and the development of evidence-based, culturally-tailored programs. In her free time, she enjoys reading, attending concerts, watching sports, baking, and spending time with her dog.
